Knowing how to write an outline for a book means gathering ideas, putting them into a coherent order, and then sitting down to write it out in an order that works best for you. As long as your ideas stay ordered, you can write an entertaining and thoughtful manuscript that readers are going to enjoy.
The basic idea is to use the book outline as a roadmap to help you know what to write in each chapter. I know, this is simple, but it’s different than most book outlines. We don’t focus on story structure, there’s no mention of turning points or character arcs or subplots for a main character or any of the typical devices that are used primarily in novel writing.

Encourage the child to take notes while reading the book to be reviewed so he can remember what points he wants to make later and what specific scenes or quotes he might want to use to support those points. Suggest that a child outline the book review before writing, using one paragraph for each point he or she wants to make about the book.
